Working with the Ribbon
When customizing and working with master pages, a major consideration is around how you manage the ribbon. For instance, by default, the ribbon is situated at the very top of the page and expands when in edit mode. In addition to examples in this section, Microsoft has published an article that details how to separate the ribbon section from other sections in a SharePoint 2010 master page. This is important if you plan on customizing the ribbon. Read “Customizing Ribbon Positioning in SharePoint 2010 Master Pages” at http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blog/Pages/BlogPost.aspx?pID=426 ...
