Working with Colors
The corev4.css primarily references colors using hexadecimal valuesrather than the color name, such as red or white. Hexadecimal values are more robust in terms of cross-browser compatibility and, although SharePoint Designer typically applies colors in the color name, you should use hexadecimal values where possible. See “HTML Color Names” at http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_colornames.asp for a list of color names supported by all browsers. Although the color name Thistle was correctly rendered and interpreted by Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.6, I recommend you fully test colors against common browsers when you’re applying the colors in SharePoint sites.
