I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Customizing Master Pages
Just like customizing other pages throughout SharePoint 2010 sites, it is possible to customize SharePoint 2010 master pages. By customizing, I mean the process of using SharePoint Designer to modify out-of-the-box templates, such as Web part page templates and CSS files, like the corev4.css file. When you save modified templates in SharePoint Designer, those templates no longer inherit from their original templates on the SharePoint Web front-end and the customized file is saved to the SharePoint content database. See Chapter 11, “Understanding SharePoint Designer Editing Features,” for further information about the process of page and template customization in SharePoint 2010.
