The Secure Store (also referred to as the SSID) in SharePoint Server 2010 replaces Single Sign-on (SSO) previously used in SharePoint Server 2007 when configuring external data connections. Secure Store improves the user experience by enabling users to sign on once and have SharePoint manage their credentials for other applications, which creates a seamless experience for the user. We no longer have to remember the user name and password for multiple systems used across the organization. The Secure Store is only available in SharePoint Server 2010 and not SharePoint Foundation 2010.
