鉛筆と水で、燃料電池を作ってみよう
次世代の環境に優しいエネルギーとして期待されている燃料電池（第5
章）は、水の電気分解とは逆に、水から電気を作ります。実際には高価な
触媒などが必要となりますが、今回は身近な素材で燃料電池を再現してみ
ましょう。なお、この実験は必ず窓を開けて行ってください。
用意するもの
・鉛筆 2本（上下を削っておく）
・実験用電子オルゴール
・リ ード 線
・食塩水（塩化ナトリウム水溶液）
・9Vの角形電池
・プラス チックの 蓋 つきカップ
やり方
❶カップに半分以上の水を入れて、ティースプーン1 杯の塩を入れて溶か
します。カップの蓋をかぶせて、鉛筆の芯が食塩水につかるようにしま
す。
❸リード線を鉛筆と電池につないで、鉛筆の芯から泡が出てきたら、水が
電気分解されていますので、3 分たったらリード線を外します。
❹リード線を電子オルゴールにつないで音が出てくるか確認しましょう。
