IFD Defined

Internet Facing Deployment (IFD) is a feature that enables users to log on to Microsoft Dynamics CRM with a type of authentication known in previous version as Forms Authentication that now is called Claims Based Authentication on this new version of CRM 2011. Claims Based Authentication is a method of authentication that prompts users with a web page interface instead of Integrated Windows Authentication. (The default installation for Microsoft Dynamics CRM is Integrated Windows Authentication.)
