15. Using Excel Tables and PivotTables

Although we primarily think of Excel as a number cruncher, it also provides a number of capabilities for working with collections of information—databases. Excel enables you to view and manipulate data records and field information in a database table. You can sort records in your table, filter the records, and import or connect to external data sources.

In this chapter, we look at Excel’s database capabilities, including a number of different table manipulation tools and data tools. We also look at grouping and ungrouping ranges in a table and creating subtotals in a table.
