You can of course open text files in an editor in KDE or GNOME.
On the other hand, if you are working in a text console or terminal window, it is best to use the less command to view files.
You can also place the command after other commands to read their often very long outputs page by page at your leisure or to search for text in them (see Table 6.4):
user$ less datei (page-by-page display of the file)user$ ls -l | less (page-by-page display of the file directory)user$ ps ax | less (page-by-page display of the list of processes)
