7 Bash (Shell)
The focus of this chapter is the Bourne Again Shell—or bash for short. This program allows you to run commands in a terminal window or in a text console. A shell is a command interpreter that provides numerous additional functions, such as the combination of several commands or the storage of the results of a command in a file. At the same time, bash contains its own programming language that can be used to create shell programs (shell scripts).
