The ssh command allows you to work on another computer in text mode as if it were in front of you. This would also be possible by using telnet and rlogin—but these two commands are considered obsolete for security reasons as they require you to transmit login information, including the password, unencrypted.
The basic requirement for using ssh is that an SSH server is running on the second computer—that is, the sshd program. In some Linux distributions this is the case by default; in others, the program (mostly as the openssh-server package) has to be installed and/or enabled first (systemctl start sshd and systemctl enable sshd).
