btrfs is currently the most modern file system for Linux. It combines many features that other file systems like ext4 or xfs can only provide in combination with external components (RAID, LVM). The following list summarizes the most important features of btrfs:
With copy-on-write (COW), modified file blocks are not overwritten but stored in a different location. In combination with journaling, this enables particularly secure file changes.
Automatic calculation of checksums can detect bit errors.
Direct support is available for RAID-0, -1, -5, -6 and -10.
