This section provides an overview of the file system types that can be used on Linux. Some particularly important file system types will be discussed in more detail later in this chapter: ext2 to ext4, btrfs, xfs, vfat, ntfs, and iso9660. You can easily determine which file system type(s) you are currently using via the df -T command.
Linux file systems are suitable for the installation and operation of Linux. In everyday life, you won’t even notice which of the file system types listed ahead that you’re using. Elementary commands such as ls or cp, the administration of access rights, and so on: all this works independently of the file system.
