The simplest case—the integration of a notebook computer into the local network (DHCP) or into the wireless network—is now left to NetworkManager by almost all distributions. (An exception is Raspberry Pi OS.) However, when it comes to special configuration variants for server use, various manufacturer-specific special paths have emerged over the last two decades.
Having introduced you to the most important configuration files in the previous section, which are the same in almost all distributions, I’ll present here some details by which the distributions differ from one another. In doing so, I go into detail about the following distributions:
