Many distributions help their users to configure the firewall by providing convenient user interfaces. This allows you to set up or modify a simple firewall virtually at the click of a mouse. All the programs described in this section also set up rules for IPv6. A lot of packet filter knowledge is usually hidden behind the fairly simple configuration. So the result is often better protection than a homemade solution.
The disadvantage of predefined firewalls is their black box behavior; if the effect of the filter is documented at all, it is mostly poor.
