This section summarizes some information about starting and stopping the graphics system. You only need to deal with this if the automatic startup doesn’t work when booting the computer or if you want to intervene in the process manually.
For desktop distributions, the graphics system is started by default. The systemd target graphical is responsible for this (see Chapter 20, Section 20.1). To switch from graphics mode to text mode or back to graphics mode, you’ll want to run systemctl isolate. The command becomes effective immediately.
