Annoyingly, many notebook computers run longer in battery mode on Windows than on Linux. This is mainly due to better optimized drivers. This section provides some tips on how you can optimize both the runtime and the life of your notebook battery on Linux. The section also briefly covers the topic of fan control: you can influence the fan behavior on Linux for selected models.
To make your notebook computer run as long as possible, you should deactivate the turbo boost mode of your CPU and activate the powersave governor. If you have a notebook with NVIDIA hybrid graphics, you should only use the Intel GPU if possible. For tips on this, see Chapter 17, Section 17.3.
