Postfix supports the TLS protocol and the STARTTLS method for establishing an encrypted connection between itself and the mail client that wants to send an email. However, this assumes that main.cf is configured accordingly and that you have a suitable certificate for your machine. Basic knowledge about “correct” and self-generated certificates can be found in Chapter 24, Section 24.2. Note that changes to the TLS configuration will only take effect after a restart of Postfix!
