SELinux and AppArmor are kernel extensions that monitor running processes and ensure that they follow certain rules. SELinux is used by default on Fedora and RHEL, AppArmor on Debian, SUSE, and Ubuntu. In various other distributions, the protection systems can be optionally activated.
This chapter provides an introduction to the operation and configuration of SELinux and AppArmor. It also describes how you can identify rule violations and how to respond to them.
