On Linux, access rights control who can access which files, who can run which programs, and who can access which hardware components or device files (see Chapter 9, Section 9.6). These access rights are based on user administration: By default, various users are set up during the installation of Linux. Each user is assigned to at least one, but possibly several groups. Groups are used to allow multiple users to access common files or programs.
