The rpm command installs and manages RPM packages. It helps to do the following:
Run scripts as part of an installation
Ensure that all prerequisites are met before installing a program—that is, that all required libraries are available in the correct version
Check if a file has been modified since the package was installed
Determine to which package a particular file belongs
Restore all files of a program during an uninstallation
The required management information is in each RPM package.
