18.15 RAID
The basic idea behind Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) is to logically link partitions of multiple hard disks or SSDs. The goal here is to create a more reliable overall system through redundancy.
There are two basic ways to implement RAID: through hardware (i.e., a controller that executes the RAID logic itself) or through software executed by the computer's CPU. Hardware RAID is mainly used in expensive server systems. Its greatest advantages are that the RAID controller acts independently of the operating system.
