13.5 Buffers and Windows
When editing multiple texts, Emacs manages each text in a buffer. Even if you work with only one text, there are multiple buffers: one for the text (the name of the buffer matches its file name), one for an info or help window that was opened at some point (buffer name *info* or *help*), one for the last displayed list of possible commands that were completed by (Tab) (*completions*), and so on.
Besides the term buffer, Emacs also uses the term window; a window is an area within Emacs where a buffer is displayed.
