15.3 LAN Configuration Files
This section introduces the most important configuration files for connecting the computer to a local network. Unfortunately, only some of these files have rules that are consistent across all major distributions. For the rest, the information compiled in this section refers to Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, RHEL, and Ubuntu (as of spring 2024). Typically, you will avoid directly modifying the configuration files and use your distribution's configuration tools instead.
