All common Linux file systems support journaling functions. In its simplest form, journaling means that the start and end of each file operation is logged in a special file or in a reserved area of the file system. Thanks to this log, you can check later whether a particular file operation has been fully executed. If it hasn’t, the operation can be revoked.
