DNF (command name dnf) helps you to manage RPM packages on Fedora and RHEL. The original name of the command was Yum; it was only later reimplemented as DNF. For compatibility reasons, you can continue to use yum as the command name, but you will actually be running dnf. And so it happens that countless books and manuals refer to the no longer existing command yum to this day.
The Babylonian language confusion also includes the configuration files. DNF uses Yum repositories defined by files in /etc/yum.repos.d. On the other hand, there is also the configuration file /etc/dnf/dnf.conf with some global settings.
