Linux is a multiuser system and therefore needs mechanisms to control who can access which files, who can modify them, and so on. The basis of the access system is the management of users and groups, which is described in Chapter 14, Section 14.5. For now, let's just assume that every user on Linux is assigned to a user account and one or several groups. This minimum requirement is sufficient to understand the concept of file access rights.
