Servers that are not physically in front of you can only be administrated via a network connection. The preferred tool for this is SSH (Secure Shell). It enables both the simple execution of commands and operation of graphical programs over a secure network connection. The only requirement is that an SSH server is installed on the remote computer.
The ssh command is a secure successor to telnet and rlogin. The client use of this command has already been described in Chapter 11, Section 11.2. This short chapter provides some tips on how to set up an SSH server as securely as possible. The chapter also discusses the use of keys for authentication.
