Even if you don't plan to specialize in database administration, you should know how to perform an error-free backup of a MySQL or MariaDB database. There are more variants and variations than you might think possible. This section introduces the mysqldump command. If you need continuous backups in addition to those performed at specific times, you should enable (binary) logging. This way, you can record every change to the database in a logging file. The logging files can also be used as a basis for replicating the database to a second server.
