18.12 The xfs File System
The xfs file system was developed by SGI for their workstations with the Unix-like operating system IRIX. Later, the file system was ported for Linux and gradually improved again and again. The file system is considered to be mature, stable, and especially efficient in handling very large files. This also applies to file systems that are larger than 16 TiB.
Since 2014, xfs has been used as the default file system by both RHEL and current SUSE distributions. (SUSE differentiates between the system partition and the data partitions; for the system partition, btrfs is provided, for the data partitions xfs). You can find more information about the xfs file system at https://xfs.wiki.kernel.org.
