16.6 APT
APT is for Debian packages what DNF or ZYpp is for RPM packages: a high-level package management system that downloads packages automatically from package sources and resolves package dependencies automatically. The combination of Debian packages and APT currently results in probably the most mature package management system for Linux. Ubuntu and Debian, among others, use it as the standard system for package management.
Like DNF and ZYpp, APT requires special package sources that provide meta information about the contents of the packages and their dependencies in addition to the DEB packages.
