SSDs differ from conventional hard disks in one respect: For the internal optimization of the memory cells, it’s necessary that the operating system informs the SSD about which memory blocks of the file system are currently not in use (e.g., because a file has been deleted). Like the underlying command, this process is called TRIM. You can read about its technical background at Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trim_(computing)).
Current Linux distributions run a so-called batch TRIM once a week using a systemd timer. All the blocks that have become free in the past week are thus cleaned up at once. For most installations, this is a good solution:
