12.7 Tips and Tricks
When entering commands that start with (:), there are some entry helpers: You can use the cursor keys to scroll through the most recently used commands. (Vim stores the commands in .viminfo and thus remembers the commands even after the program ends.) Furthermore, you can complete keywords using (Tab) (e.g., when entering options). And finally, you can abbreviate many (:) commands (such as (:) tabn instead of (:) tabnext).
(:) set number displays the line number next to each line, while (:) set nonumber deactivates this mode again.
