It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

ITIL は、1980 年代後半にイギリス政府主導でまとめられた書籍
です。「鉄の女」と言われたマーガレット・サッチャー首相の時
代です。
サッチャー首相は、当時経済的に低迷していたイギリスを立て
直そうと、政治と経済の両面で改革のメスを入れました。
その改革の一つとして、イギリス政府の
IT 部門（中央電算電気
通信局：
CCTA）の手により、ITSM（ITサービスマネジメント）
についての見直しが行われました。その内容をまとめ、
1989 年
に公表されたのが
ITILです。ITILはイギリス国内に留まらず、世
界中で活用され、今や
IT サービスの世界的スタンダードとなっ
ています。
1989 年当時の「初版」から「ITIL V2」「 ITIL V3」「 ITIL 2011 edition」
と、その時々の最新事例を吸収しながら改版を重ね、
2019 年に
は「
ITIL 4」がリリースされました。
30 年以上にわたり、改版を繰り返しながら世界中で読まれ、参
照されてきたという事実こそが、
ITIL の価値を証明していると
言えます。
さらに、
ITIL を元にISO 規格もまとめられています。ISOとは、
「
International Organization for Standardization（国際標準化
機構）」のことであり、
ISO 規格とは、その機構がまとめた世界
共通の取り決めです。
ITIL を元に作成されたISO規格は「ISO/
IEC 20000
」で、ITSM の国際規格となっています。つまり、世
界の
