If the goal of the study is to understand the specific path that a user follows through the product, a user video is the preferred approach as it provides visual context. Survey participants can be asked to report the path that they took, but this information could be incomplete or inaccurate, and the UX researcher has no way to verify what is reported. If the goal is to document which of the multiple entry points the participants chose, such as whether they started a journey from the top menu or the homepage, then this could be done in a survey. Anything more extensive is not recommended.
