Moderated and user video-based studies use the think-aloud protocol to gain insight into the user’s thoughts as they complete a task. The phrase “thinking aloud” refers to the participants speaking out loud what they are thinking as they complete each task. In a survey-based study, this principle is adapted to a "write-down-what-you-think" protocol. Similarly to the think-aloud approach, the participant is encouraged to think out loud and is then asked to write down what they are thinking. We have found that using this protocol yields a lot of insightful feedback.
