In a video-based, remote, unmoderated study, participants are asked to complete one or more tasks while using the think-aloud protocol.
The phrase thinking aloud refers to the participants speaking out loud what they are thinking as they complete each task. It is used in in-person and remote moderated studies. As mentioned in Chapter 4, Running a Remote Moderated Study, it is seen as a reliable method to gain insights into the participant's thoughts as they complete tasks.
The think-aloud protocol works well for unmoderated studies with user videos, but there are a couple of things to consider.
