Managing observers
Stakeholders are often eager to observe the sessions in real time, to get direct and immediate feedback.
The UX researcher must set clear expectations with the stakeholders ahead of the session. Occasionally, stakeholders expect to jump in mid-session and directly address the participant with additional questions. We don't allow stakeholders to do so, as it would negatively impact the continuity of the session and distract the participant. To make sure that observers don't give in to this temptation, the tool that is used for the sessions must be able to mute the observers. A web conferencing tool, for instance, allows the meeting organizer to mute certain parties.
