It is not easy to suggest a right number of tasks and questions, since tasks can vary greatly in scope and complexity, and those factors, in turn, determine the time required to complete the task. In addition, some questions yield short answers, while others yield long answers, taking more time to answer. Four to seven tasks is a good general number, and an experienced UX researcher will have a sense of the right length of the discussion guide based on the session duration.
