At the most basic level, the participant's audio must be captured, and should be clear and understandable. This means that the following criteria must be met:
- The volume must be loud enough
- The audio cannot break up significantly
- There must be consistency in volume and tone to avoid imbalanced audio
- There should be no background noise that impedes the audio quality, such as a hum from computer equipment, an air conditioning unit in the room, static noise, a child crying, or other disruptive household noises
- The participant must enunciate clearly
- If they are not a native speaker of the language of the study, their accent must be easy to understand
