Friends and family
Recruiting the friends and family of coworkers reduces bias, since there is a level of separation between the UX researcher and the participant. However, it introduces a dependency, as well, since coworkers need to actively recruit their friends and family, and could end up being a bottleneck in getting participants connected with the originator of the request.
When approaching coworkers with a request, we recommend providing a written paragraph that explains what the study is about and adding contact information. The written information can easily be passed on to interested parties, who can then reach out to the contact person directly.
