Give examples
In addition to describing what participants are asked to do, examples can be helpful. Provide an example of a poor and a good think-aloud session (in that order).
In a poor think-aloud session, the participant describes what they are doing rather than expressing their thoughts and opinions.
An example of a poor session might be: "I am now going to click the Next button. On this next page, I see the text box to enter my name. I will now enter my name." This is just a rundown of what a person is doing. It means that someone who can not see what is going on can still follow the actions, but that is beside the point.
In a good think-aloud session, the participant describes their feelings and expectations.
