Using the Condition field

Just like a Business Rule, a UI Action has a Condition field. Any JavaScript put in here is always run on the server. If it returns true (in addition to the other options controlling when and where), the button will be shown.

The current object of GlideRecord is available in the condition as well as gs and the other global objects.

Try to leverage access control rules when you write conditions. Rather than creating a long string of conditions, checking roles and fields, use current.canWrite() as a base. In most situations, if a user can write to the record, they can use a button. This is discussed further in Chapter 7, Exchanging Data – Import Sets, Web Services, and other Integrations.
