While the expatriate is on assignment, the individual performance must be appraised (Dowling, Welch and Schuler 1999; Tahvanainen 2000). Many comparative research studies on British, German, Japanese, and US multinationals established that expatriate performance appraisal systems are different from the parent countries’ systems.
