Firstly, the counsellor should be an excellent listener. He should pay attention to the ideas, feelings, and sentiments of the person being counselled. This enables the counsellor to understand and analyse the subordinate's concern. The effectiveness of a performance counselling session, therefore, depends on the efficiency of asking questions.
