Exhibits 8, 9, and 10 pertain to U.S. chicken, beef, and pork production, respectively, and indicate an oligopoly “meat industry,” with the top 4 or 5 firms producing most of all meat consumed by Americans. However, chicken production, dominated by Tyson and Pilgrim’s Pride, is quite fragmented, with 46 percent of all chicken production in the United States coming from smaller companies. Note in the exhibits that Tyson Foods is the U.S. leader in both chicken and beef production and trails only Smithfield (bought by China Shuanghui International Holdings Ltd. in 2013) in pork production.
