History
Constellation Brands traces its history back to 1945 when Marvin Sands, at age 21, formed the Canandaigua Industries Company with only eight employees. By 1980, the company reported $50 million in sales and was the eighth-largest wine producer in the United States. Sales expanded to $250 million by 1992 when the company acquired Barton Inc., adding to its portfolio the beer brands Corona, Peroni, and Tsingtao, along with gin, vodka, bourbon, and tequila products. Canandaigua Industries changed its name in 1997 to Canandaigua Brands, to better reflect its expanding alcoholic drink business, and to Constellation Brands in 2000.
