Many beer companies have struggled over the last decade as numerous consumers switched to sprits, wine, and more premium beers. Industrywide consolidations also have increased competition, especially for distribution rights. Firms have often had to pay well in excess of book value (a premium) for distribution firms. Constellation competes with rivals on brand names, price, and distribution networks. Anheuser-Busch InBev, Miller Coors, Boston Beer (Sam Adams), and Heineken are rival beer firms.
