The World Wildlife Fund was formed when the Morges Manifesto document was signed in 1961 by 16 of the world’s leading conservationists, stating that although the expertise to protect the environment existed, the financial support for the goal did not. As a result, the document established the WWF as an international fundraising organization. It quickly established itself on the world conservation stage and opened its first office in Morges, Switzerland, with H.R.H. Prince Bernhard as its first president.
