Competitors

The camera and video markets are highly competitive with major players including Sony, Canon, Apple, Samsung, GoPro, and others. Many competitors such as Sony and Canon were caught somewhat by surprise by quality point-and-shoot cameras built into smartphones by new rivals Apple, Samsung, and others. Digital camera sales fell globally about 50 percent from 2011 to 2013. GoPro was largely viewed as a niche player for outdoor enthusiasts only, but sales show many consumers value GoPro’s products over traditional video cameras by Sony, Canon, and others. However, for more professional quality video and more control from the user, products from Canon, Sony, Nikon, Olympus, and others still are likely better options than GoPro.
