Rama Swami had been with the Balaji Corporation for several years, during which time he had worked his way up from the bottom to a position of foreman. He was proud of what he had accomplished, and he liked his work at Balaji. He had recently bought a house, and his wife and children were delighted with their new neighbours.
In recent months, the Balaji Corporation had lost two good accounts and as a result had been forced to lay off some employees. They had, for the most part, laid off employees with the least seniority, although this was not required. Now, there was a rumour circulating that they were going to lose another account.
